Coming in for a Blood Glucose Curve?

This test helps determine the effectiveness of diabetes management. Here’s what to expect:

  • Check-in time is between 8:00 and 8:30 AM with your pet fasted since the night before.
  • Bring your pet’s breakfast and medication.
  • We’ll test their blood sugar, then feed them and give their medication.
  • Blood sugar is monitored every 2 hours until the value stabilizes.
  • Medication dosage may be adjusted based on results.
  • Pick-up time is usually between 4:30 and 5:00 PM.
  • Results are typically interpreted the same or next day.

Coming in for Seizure Medication Monitoring?

This is for pets taking Phenobarbital, Zonisamide, Potassium Bromide, or Keppra. Two types of testing are available:

Peak and Trough Monitoring:

  • Check-in at 8:00 AM, pet should be fasted (bring food and meds).
  • First blood draw for “trough” level.
  • Pet is fed and medicated.
  • Second draw two hours later for “peak” level.
  • Plan for a 2-hour visit.

Trough-Only Monitoring:

  • Check-in at 8:00 AM; fasting is helpful but not required.
  • A single blood sample is taken to check medication levels.
  • Samples sent to Auburn lab (5–7 business days turnaround).
  • Wait time varies from 20 minutes to 3 hours.
  • Pets may be kenneled until 5 PM if needed.

Coming in for Pre-Surgical Blood Work?

Used to assess anesthetic risk and identify any underlying conditions before surgery:

  • Fasting preferred but not required.
  • Options include basic health screen, ECG for cardiac issues, and clotting tests for at-risk breeds or major procedures.
  • Turnaround time: 1–3 business days.
  • Pickup time usually within 20 minutes of check-in.

Coming in for a Liver Bile Acids Test?

This test evaluates liver function, especially if screening results are inconclusive:

  • Fasting for 8–12 hours required (water OK).
  • Check-in early in the morning is best.
  • Initial blood draw is followed by a high-fat meal.
  • Second and third draws occur 1–2 hours later.
  • Pickup time may range from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

Coming in for a Texas A&M GI Panel?

This test helps pinpoint chronic gastrointestinal issues:

  • Fasting for 8–12 hours required (water OK).
  • Check-in between 8:00 and 8:30 AM preferred.
  • Sample is drawn and your pet can go home right after.

Coming in for a NuQ Cancer Screening Test?

This test screens for early signs of certain cancers:

  • Fasting for 4–8 hours is recommended.
  • Best to arrive between 8:00 and 8:30 AM.
  • Sample must be collected before 2:00 PM.
  • Your pet can leave immediately after the blood draw.
